can you guys democratically sort out the walks between you? The second Sunday in October is the 14th. Any suggestions for the venue? Watermead? (could try the other end for a change maybe. Not been there myself.

We did Watermead in August. I guess it depends on how much rain we've had too!
We haven't been to the Burroughs at Ratby in ages, or how about Outwoods which is on the same road as the bottom car park at Beacon Hill. There is also Swithland Woods which is pleasant, or Martinshaw Woods in Ratby if you fancy a new venue!

I like the sound of all of them except that end of Watermead but only 'cos I do it every day.If you walk the whole way round it still only takes half an hour. Also no toilets or any facilities,so many people leave food for the ducks and swans I saw two rats last night so we would need a couple of Jack Russels with us,!

Am def up for the walk, enjoyed it last time, although i don't think we'll be up for a 2 hour drive again! Watermead is much easier for us to get to, but like Loopylou says, maybe go for a bit of a longer walk this time?

Sorry to be a damp squib but I've just found Elvaston Castle on the map. It's a lot further from WL than the usual walks, plus we've not rehomed any in that area, AND it's slap bang in the middle of another RGT Branches patch. Why not do one independant of the WL walks if a crowd of you fancy it? Just avoid the 2nd Sunday If those who know Outwoods think the car park can cope with up to 20 cars, maybe it's time we gave it a go, now it's out of holiday season? We usually get a good turn out at Beacon Hill, so maybe this would be a good one?

Outwoods carpark is huge! Parking there is free. The paths aren't very wide though so you can't have a gaggle of people walking next to each other.

I've been to Outwoods several times, the car park is more than big enough for 20 cars. However, earlier this year it was closed. I'm waiting for a call back from Charnwood Council to see if it is now open! Free car parking too. www.charnwood.gov.uk/leisure/outwoodsinformation.htmlClaire

was just reading down this thread and got all excited thinking you were all coming over to the realms of the beautiful Derbyshire countryside but never mind!!! Have no idea where Outwoods is but if it's less than 2 hrs away am ok with that - is it a decent walk? Just seems a long way for short distance otherwise?! Looking forward to seeing everyone again! Fingers crossed for good weather!

The man from Charnwood Borough Council has got back to me to confirm that the car park is now open ;D. The entrance is on Woodhouse Lane, the same road as the lower entrance to Beacon Hill, but on the oppoiste side. There are several options of walks around the woods, one is a good length, probably a couple of hours. Are we definitely going to Outwoods then? Cx

Outwoods is a nice woodland walk and there is indeed an almost 2 hour loop with several cut throughs to make it shorter if you get tired. The car park is at the top of the hill so you just have to go up to find it!! As an alternative there are plenty of signs too. The car park is about the size of Burrough on the Hill but with more options to double park cars. There is a loo but no cafe. If you head S (ish) first, the path is at its widest to start the walk, bringing you back from the N side of the woods where the steeper uphill path is narrow for a bit just as you approach the car park. Enough wittering -----Jasper enjoys his visits there!! and I hope we can make it on the day....It's way too early for planning!

Outwoods sounds good and as Jaspers Dad says there is a longer loop the ones of us who want a longer walk could take that route and meet the other peeps and dogs after.Re Derbyshire as Claire 1 says maybe those that fancy it could go as an individual walk.Dave says Calke Abbey has a really good walk too.I'd be interested love Derbyshire

oh, no!! i was just thinking that outwoods sounds like a nice long walk and much nearer/accessible than borrough hill was when i realised that the 14th oct is the day that vi gives blood in nottingham, so we won't be able to make it. i fancied a longish one too. but derbyshire is also accessible from here, so a meet up somewhere in derbys would be great. ;D
