I suppose theres 2 weeks for it to drain away - how about its a possibility unless theres lots of rain and local peeps (Leics. Lass) tells us otherwise a few days before? Maybe if its a no-go, we could have a back-up plan of somewhere that tends to stay a bit dryer regardless of the weather?

I live 10mins away (by Car) from the entrance with the mammoth. When we pick Suggs up next Thursday were going to walk him there before coming home, I could post Thurs eve to let peeps know what its like.or is that too late?.I'm sure one of the members walks her dog there every day but can't remember who.Two people at work told me we've got rain for another 3 weeks. So give it 8 weeks and there'll be a hosepipe ban!

Has Bess got enough bus fare this time? Loopylou, that would be good if you could let us know whether its waterlogged or not on Thursday. Leicslass walks Jess there most days too, I think. We could always say check on this thread by 9pm on the Saturday night before the walk to see if the venue has changed?

At the moment watermead is flooded in parts, the canal side path and the top corner of king lears lake (the same places as before if anyone can remember them) and the path over the bridge to birstall, there is also a lot of water lying on some of the grassy parts.Don't know what the other end is like as i've not been up there for a while.

Not sure if you know, but the below is happening (if it isn't a wash out) on the Sunday 8th. Parking might be a problem. Or we could all enter the "best chaser of small yappy furry thing" dog class. LOL Apologies to all owners of small yappy furry things.
Wet, Wild and Wonderful - A great family day out held at Watermead Country Park in Syston, with lots to see and do including a range of countryside activities, craft shows, nature groups, pets corner, sheep racing and a duck race . We also have a dog show – there are 8 classes, entry is £1 per class with lots of fantastic prizes to be won. Gates open at 11.00. Admission is £2.50 and under 14’s are free. For further details contact Emma Hall on 01509 638006 or email.

Carsington Water is lovely. I remember going there one December and walking aroun in the snow. It was quite magical If there is this event on at Watermead on the 8th, then I think we should go to a different venue - possibly Beacon? Or should we try a new venue this time? What do others think?

We found a ferret in our garden last year. We let the girls out for a wee in the morning as usual and suddenly we heard Dixie screaming. Rushed outside to see an albino ferret putting up a very good fight, biting needle noses and feet!!! Joan and Dix didn't know what to make of it (The Rodent Strikes Back) We took Freddie the Ferret to the RSPCA because I was convinced she belonged to someone (Albino ferrets don't live long in the wild). They phoned back to say she was riddled with cancer and they had to put her to sleep. Shame coz I fancied keeping her, she was very cute - if a little smelly. On the subject of dog shows, we entered the girls into a show at the Bongo Bash. I couldn't understand why Joanie was moaning and whining the whole tme, until the next catagory, which was the 'non-dog' catagory and I realised the woman standing behind me had a bag full of guinea pigs. That woman doesn't know how close she came to a Sunday afternoon massacre. As for the walk, high ground sounds like a good option to me
