Back in the days of committees and fundraising, we tried to do a 3/4 monthly newsletter which contained dogs needing homes, happy endings, various news bits and bobs and the forthcoming walk. Since we downsized we've not done a newsletter - I think the last one was August (it cost close to £200 to produce). But occasionally I meet people who ask "do you still do the dog walks?" It would appear that not everyone has the internet Soooooooooooo I really need to think about getting out a (cheap n cheerful) newsletter which has , at least, the next 6 months walks in it. What I need from you lovely/foolhardy peeps is where and when. We need to bear in mind that summer & holiday walks can only be held at places with huge car parks and spring/winter walks need to be in places that don't turn into a flood/mudfest. So, want to tell me where June, July, August, September, October and November should be, and why? Tried and tested would be better than unknowns. And are we all happy with 2pm? This is the best time for us because of kennel duties either side, but does it suit you? Thank you muchly.

I'll kick this off then, shall I ;D How about a poster/leaflet for the walks, which we can print off and put up in prominent places. It doesn't cost the rescue much (a bit of time and some printing costs for your area) and its something we can all be involved in? I know a few people with WL dogs, who probably haven't had time to check their emails, so I can pass a leaflet onto them. As to where and when, how about Watermead Country Park for the June one (and lets hope its a bit drier than last time we were there). Large car park, easy to get to and we've only been the once, which was disrupted because of flooding! I'm more than happy to keep the 2.00pm start. I'll get my brain into gear to come up with cheap and cheerful ways of printing and distribution - can't promise anything, but I'll try! Anyone else with any ideas?

Er um loving your enthusiasm Sarah but...... I've resigned myself to doing the newsletter (although if anyone can sneak stuff thru a franking machine or a photocopier then yay) - I am more looking for the popular consensus on walks.

I thought I'd let others have an input, but if you want some other suggestions that people can then comment on... Beacon Hill Bradgate Park Burrough on the Hill Melton Country Park Jubilee Wood (not far from the lower entrance of Beacon Hill) - never been but told its nice Swithland Wood - used to go alot when I was younger. haven't been for ages, but it used to be lovely Salcey Forest - not sure what others think to going out of Leics. but I'd love to go there Is that enough suggestions Mrs Oooook

You must have been readiing my mind - I was thinking to myself on the way home on Sunday that it would be a good idea to have a "walk calendar". As to where: - Salcey Forest - (only mention it 'coz Sarah did) Top marks as far as I'm concerned - I'm sure most can guess why. Nice walks on made up paths that can be as long or short as desired, the Tree Walk, Cafe, Loos - nothing at all to do with the fact it's 15 mins from home
- Beacon Hill - A must for me - my favourite place we go to on WL walks
- Melton Country Park - Despite the cack weather every time we are there, another favourite place for me - and, as was proven on Sunday, an all weather venue.
- Ratby Burroughs - Not an all weather venue (we tried , but really nice on a nice day.
- Watermead - Like it here too. Obviously one to avoid after lots of rain, but I think the time we tried it was a bit exceptional. Should also be a good one for longer walks if people want.
- Rutland Water - There's two I know of here
- Normanton - Good paths, but for me a bit of a bland walk
- Barnsdale - I prefer this as it goes through a bit of Barnsdale Woods, and there's a cafe at the end for a cuppa before heading back.
- Burrough on the Hill - Always seems popular, so it must go on the list.
- Coombe Abbey - A great venue if further afield is an option . Huge car parks, nice walks through the grounds and the woods - not too strenuous either.
Sarah also mentioned Bradgate Park - always see the signs on the way to Beacon Hill and am intrigued. And Swithland Wood - dived in an old quarry there once - the most spooky place I have ever dived. 2pm is fine for us - sometimes we even gt there on time ;D

It's not tried and tested but at some point I'm determined to drag everyone over to West Leicestershire to sample the delights of Burbage Common and Woods.
In the hot weather there's a big car park next to the 'Common' and the ground is fairly decent.
In the less lovely weather the paths through the 'Woods' stay pretty solid but there's not as much parking.
It's also really good for the dogs to look for those rabbits that climb trees.

Beacon Hill - one of my favourites.
Salcey Forest (despite the long drive), should love to see more of it.
Bradgate Park, been once only (not on a WL walk) and liked it from what I recall
Watermead in the dry season
Rutland Waters - only been once, briefly, so would be nice to see more of that
Because I don't know them, no thoughts on: Ratby Burroughs, Barnsdale , Coombe Abbey (but sounds really nice), Burbage

hello - we are back on line - at last!! Bradgate park must be one of the best places in leic and has many entrances so we can do lots of different walks. Also great for short and long. Beacon hill is good for everyonr from what I can gather Watermead is nice and lots of room to park they are my top 3 Rutland is ok but lots of people on bikes and running from what I remember especially in summer. Willing to try new venues too! PS I can photocopy for you and post out some of the leaflets

I took Ozzy to Jubilee Woods last week and it was lovely and peaceful ;D, but it was during the week! The bluebells were still out too. The only problem is that parking is on the verge at the side of the road, and cars whizz past, so possibly a little dangerous if you are trying to handle several dogs at once.
I also really like Outwoods which is just up the road from Jubilee Woods and parking there is free. However, when I drove by last week, the car park was closed due to maintenance, so not sure when it will reopen.
I can help with photocopying too, but black and white only!
