I think anyone associated with the Victorian Christmas Fair in Melton Mowbray must have woken up this Sunday, glanced out of the window and felt their optimism crumble like last year's pudding. Rain? This was RAIN!!!!! The QT crew were unimpressed at being roused so early on a Sunday AND being dragged out in the rain. The omens were not great, especially as we couldn't find our stall straight away. Maybe it was the arrival of Linda and Tracey .... maybe it was pure luck.... but somewhere around 10 am the leaden ceiling of rain clouds cleared and there was blue sky... sunshine...amazing!!! Visitors started arriving about 9.45 and by 11 the streets were crowded. Santa on his 'truck' and the band raised the spirits of everyone and it all felt very festive. Many people stopped, 'mugged' for hugs by Xander, Quinn, Moscow, Sam, Fleur, Izzy, Midge, Queenie and Molly and the other dogs who came along with their humans. One person who stopped and hugged was Madam Mayor. It seems that Madam Mayor has a greyhound of her own and she was very interested in WL and the RGT and the dogs. People certainly seemed to be being very generous and the collecting boxes had a satisfactory rattle. I'm sure Gill will let us know the total! Let's hope that some people were enchanted enough by the dogs to want to adopt one. Wonderful to see so many WLers there helping to spread the gospel of greyhounds! Oh... and a special award to Midge, who was in full costume and looked gorgeous!!! Anyone who can get the Melton Times (Thursdays or Fridays I think) should look out for a pic of the WL crew!!!

What a fantastic day, very festive.Thank you so much to every one that came along to support us, made cake, jams, truffles, biscuits, spiced apples and pears and doggy foods. The Hounds were brilliant and so many people were genuinely interested in them.Midge looked so pretty in her Victorian dress, Izzy should be on the stage, and the others were just mugging the crowd for hugs.Oh and Izzy mugged a small boy of his burger ;D ;D Penny's hopefully forever family came along as did Gemma's new Mum who is taking her home tomorrow. As for Moscow he's my new crush what a lovely boy, he worked the crowd all day.By about 3.30 he was tired and calmly turned his back on every one. ;D Gill took him to the car for a rest while we began to pack away.Gill has just rang to say he's now snuggled up in a very warm kennel. She also said that from the collection buckets alone we had raised £145 .37 Thanks to Alison for taking the photos although I might retract that when a certain photo is posted on here. ;D Thanks again to everyone for a brilliant day.

Thank you so much to Loopylou and everyone who helped with this - it was a roaring success ;D I think it was one of the best events ever for raising the profile of WL and although I’m not sure what the final total amounted to, those money tins and buckets sure felt heavy! I’ll be along later in the week with proper thanks and more photos but in the meantime I’ve just composed an e-mail to my contacts at The Melton Times and Chimney Sweep Gazette with this pic. What do you reckon folks? Should I click the “send” button?

Done! I’ve received an e-mail in response so all being well Linda will be appearing in the paper on Thursday. The editor also mentioned something about using the image for a calendar
